Fully transitioning Google Talk to Hangouts and Hangouts Meet
June 26, 2017
Google Hangouts becomes Google Hangouts Meet!
Starting June 26, 2017, all video calls created for a meeting on your Google calendar will use Google Hangouts Meet, rather than classic Hangouts. What is Hangouts Meet?
Google’s Hangouts Meet is a new video meeting experience with one goal: to make joining meetings effortless so that people can be as productive as they are when they’re face-to-face. Google listened to customers about ways to improve Hangouts, like making it easier to work with external clients or reducing the ‘time to start’ a meeting to zero. They’ve built Hangouts Meet to have a light, fast interface, and smart participant management.

Fully transitioning Google Talk to Hangouts!
With the introduction of Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat, which add further improvements in meetings and team collaboration, it is now time to say goodbye to Google Talk.
Talk users within Gmail received a prompt in the few weeks leading up to June 26, inviting them to switch to Hangouts. After June 26, users will be automatically transitioned to Hangouts.
- The legacy Google Talk Android app was replaced in the Play Store in 2013 and will now stop functioning. Android users are encouraged to install Hangouts now.
